Separate a leased kitchen retrofit from a property purchase or acquisition. Price the menu-specific kitchen and paid roster, then reconcile sales ramp, inventory and debt payments to monthly cash.
Residential remodelers
Match financing to the contract payment cycle. Project materials, payroll and subcontractor deposits may become due before customer collections, even when a job has a positive estimated margin.
Fitness and recreational sports centers
Distinguish premises and equipment finance from cash needed to build retained memberships. Test churn, paid staffing and peak attendance before treating membership revenue as a dependable repayment source.
Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors
Compare service and replacement work separately. Equipment purchases and supplier deposits can increase cash need during seasonal peaks; a broad contractor loan median cannot price that timing.
Landscaping services
Build the request from the vehicle/equipment scope and the off-season cash path. More stops do not create proportional capacity if travel and setup time absorb the working day.
Child day care services
Confirm site approval and qualified paid coverage before forecasting tuition. Enrollment increases can trigger another classroom roster, so debt coverage cannot be estimated from average enrollment alone.
General automotive repair shops
Price lifts and their installed site scope, then test billed hours and parts working capital. Available bay hours are not automatically sold technician hours.
Beauty salons
Confirm the employment arrangement, service durations and booked chair hours. The fit-out budget and first months of paid coverage should be tested together rather than inferred from a beauty-salon loan median.
How to read these figures
The database contains 1,052,072 approval records from the three linked official files covering FY2010 onward. There are 84,840 approvals dated FY2025 in this snapshot; 64,422 have a disbursed status. These are different counts.

Counts and financial measures
For the lending exhibits, disbursed status means PIF, CHGOFF or EXEMPT in the snapshot. COMMIT, CANCLD and NOT FUNDED are excluded. The obsolete CLOSED status is also excluded because its definition does not establish a paid-in-full or charged-off outcome. The spaced spelling P I F is normalized to PIF. This classification follows the official data dictionary.
Amounts use GrossApproval: the total approved 7(a) loan, or the SBA/CDC portion of a 504 loan. A 504 third-party loan and owner contribution are outside that amount. These measures do not report full project cost, cash actually drawn, revenue, margin or net worth. The 7(a) rate is the initial approval rate, not a current offer or APR.
Periods, sample sizes and missing values
Headlines and size/state distributions use FY2025. Lender and borrower-type tables pool FY2023–FY2025. FY2026 is partial and is excluded from these comparisons. A fiscal year is not a calendar year. Every median uses only valid values for that field and is suppressed when fewer than 25 observations remain. Blank values are not replaced with zero. Annual charts show 2020 and 2021 as pandemic-period observations; no causal trend is inferred from them.
Industry scope
The 152 categories are editorial groupings with visible NAICS code sets inherited from the project. Categories can overlap and should not be added to obtain a national total. Earlier and later code vintages are retained where mapped in the original category. Compare the stated descriptions with the operation you mean. Coffee and snack bars include businesses beyond coffee shops; the car-wash category does not separate self-service bays from automatic formats.
Lenders and historical outcomes
7(a) bank names and 504 CDC names represent different roles and are ranked separately. Counts describe records assigned to those institutions in the snapshot, not willingness to accept your application. There is no paid placement or quality score.
Charge-off shares use FY2012–FY2016 and a denominator of PIF plus CHGOFF records only. EXEMPT, unresolved and ambiguous statuses are excluded and their counts remain visible. This selected-outcome share is neither a business-failure probability nor a percentage of principal lost. The dataset does not contain all rejected applications, so it cannot produce an applicant approval probability.
Correction to the inherited figures
The original code counted COMMIT among funded records and mixed a 7(a)-only bank list with a denominator that included 504 records. This release excludes undisbursed commitments and separates the programs. Historical figures elsewhere in archived prototypes may therefore differ. All current exhibits are generated from the recomputed aggregate dataset.
